When I first started looking at jogging strollers, I really had no idea what to look for. All I knew was that, they looked cool, they seemed to go everywhere, and I had to have one. What I didn't know was that there were so many different styles to choose from. From fixed wheels to swivel wheels, no matter what you plan on doing with it, there's a jogging stroller fit for every need.
In the beginning there was only one style, the True Jogging Stroller. It's three wheel design offered a fixed front wheel that tracked straight, giving you that extra durability, and a super smooth ride. Back in the 1980's, joggers didn't come with a lot of extra features. They were simple, and built for a purpose. They've come a long way since then. The simple designs now include locking front swivel wheels that turn on a dime, providing expert maneuverability, and then lock into a fixed position, providing the durability you need for a jog. They've taken the True Jogger and turned it into an All-Terrain Jogging Stroller. Go anywhere, from the shopping mall, to the track. Even though these All-Terrain strollers offer the locking capability, it is still recommended by most, that if you are a "serious" runner, you should go with a fixed front wheel verses a swivel. The reason for this is safety. With a fixed front wheel you never have to worry about it getting wobbly at high speeds. As for those of you who are not so serious about running, just an occasional jogger, a good quality All-Terrain Jogging stroller with a swivel wheel could be just what you're looking for.
Light Stroller
The difference, when turning a fixed wheel, you must lift the front end of the stroller up, by pushing down on the handle bar, and then turn. In other words, pop-a-wheelie. With a swivel front wheel, simply turn. Now, I'm not knocking the fixed wheel, I love my True Jogger. And you'd be surprised at how natural it feels to pop-a-wheelie. But they require more room for turning and maneuvering, whereas the swivel wheel turns on a dime.
Other differences between True Joggers and All-Terrain strollers, are the features. The True Jogger is simple, without a bunch of extra features, mainly because if you're a serious runner, all that "stuff" can get in the way. Since the All-Terrain Stroller is intended to be an all-in-one stroller or everyday stroller, it comes with a few extra's, such as parent trays with cup holders, or child's trays. Some models even come with a speaker that attaches to an MP3 player, giving you and your little one the ability to listen to tunes on the trail.
In conclusion, both the True and the All-Terrain style jogging strollers are excellent designs. They're light weight, stylish and sporty, and no matter which one you choose, you won't be disappointed. For a list of Best Selling jogging strollers, see the links below.
